PGT Window Replacement: The Stuart Owner’s Guide

If you’re looking for PGT window replacement in Stuart, FL, the window itself rarely needs replacing - what usually fails is the part: a fogged insulating glass unit, a worn balance, a stripped operator, or a failed seal. At TruePane Windows & Doors, we stock and install PGT-compatible replacement parts and full window replacements, with most installations priced between $150 and $1,100 depending on what’s actually wrong, and most parts swapped in a single visit. You’ll usually notice the failure when a room in your Stuart home suddenly gets draftier, harder to vent, or a window pane fogs between the glass and won’t clear.

We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with PGT, but we’ve been matching PGT parts to the right series and frame dimensions since 2008. Dale Kessler started reading PGT labels on Treasure Coast job sites long before TruePane opened its doors in 2008, and the rule hasn’t changed: if the opening is right, the rest is just doing the work.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds windows across a wide range of series, and the part that fits a 5700 Series single-hung won’t necessarily match a WinGuard impact window, an Eze-Breeze vinyl slider, or a SpectraGuard aluminum frame. Before you order anything, check the label. On most PGT windows, you’ll find a silver or white sticker on the frame or sash with the series number and manufacturing date printed on it. That sticker is the single most useful piece of information you can have when calling us.

From there, it’s a matter of measurements. The insulating glass unit in a PGT WinGuard, for example, often includes a laminated glass layer, and the overall thickness can run anywhere from 7/16 to 1-1/8 inches, depending on the impact rating. That matters because an aftermarket IGU that is not laminated or is too thin for the existing frame leaves the window weaker than it was and can void whatever remains of the original warranty. For non-impact PGT lines, like the 2000 or 5400 Series, a quality aftermarket IGU from a brand like ViewLux is often a better value than paying a dealer premium for an OEM glass pack. For anything load-bearing, like impact sashes, window balances, or laminated glass units, we recommend staying with OEM or a manufacturer-specified equivalent, and we’ll show you the cost difference on paper before you decide.

Most hardware, like locks and keepers and operator cranks, is standardized enough that a good aftermarket part from top hardware lines will fit correctly and function just as well. The biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Stuart is when someone buys a replacement sash balance or spiral balance based on the window height alone, without accounting for the sash weight. Same window, wrong balance rating, and the sash keeps creeping down. Another Stuart-specific issue: frames that have been exposed to salt air along the St. Lucie River for a decade, where the aluminum in older PGT models can pit and throw off the original hardware alignment. That’s one of the reasons we measure every opening twice before ordering anything.

Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Condensation or fog between the panes. A failed seal has let humid air into the space between the glass layers, and no amount of wiping will fix it. You’re looking at an IGU replacement, not the whole window. In Stuart’s humidity, this is the most common PGT issue we see.
  • The sash won’t stay up, or it slams down on its own. The balance system, which counterweights the sash, has worn out or snapped. Older PGT windows with spiral balances are especially prone to this mineral wear near the coast. This is the single most common PGT balance failure we replace in Martin County.
  • Cranking an operator feels gritty or won’t move at all. The gear teeth inside the operator have corroded due to salt air and moisture. This is common on older PGT casement and awning windows installed within a few miles of the water. Sometimes you can clean and lube it; more often in Stuart’s coastal environment, the gears are pitted and the operator wants replacement.
  • You feel a draft, even with the window locked. The weatherstripping has compressed or the sash has warped, breaking the seal between frame and sash. On an older PGT window, this can also mean the frame has shifted slightly and the sash no longer seats square. If a new pile weatherstrip doesn’t cure the draft, the window needs more than a part.
  • The window is hard to slide, or it sticks in the track. Rollers, tracks, and glides on PGT sliders and Eze-Breeze vinyl windows wear out, collect debris, and eventually bind. Sometimes rolling it clean solves it; if the roller itself is flat-spotted, replacement is the only honest fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what PGT window replacement parts typically cost installed in Stuart:

  • Insulating glass unit (seal failure, without impact rating): $180 - $420 per sash
  • Laminated impact IGU for WinGuard: $340 - $700 per sash
  • Balance replacement, standard: $150 - $280 per sash
  • Operator/crank replacement: $95 - $190 per unit
  • Weatherstripping (pile and vinyl): $60 - $150 per window
  • Roller/glide replacement: $90 - $180 per panel

The price difference comes down to part choice and the condition of the frame it’s going into. If the frame is square and undamaged, a factory-measured IGU drops in cleanly and labor stays low. If the frame has shifted, or the original install wasn’t square, the fix takes longer because we re-set the frame before we install the new part. Every quote we give is a line-item, fixed-price quote. No change orders, no “we found something else while we were in there” add-ons. The work is covered by our Done Right Promise, and both manufacturer warranty layers are registered in writing before the truck leaves your driveway, with durations stated in your hand. We also stand behind everything with The Keystone Standard: if the pane is not true, the job is not done.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things you can check yourself. If the window is drafty, inspect the weatherstripping for compression. If the window is hard to slide, pull the sash gently out of the track and clean the rollers and track with a dry cloth. Those are safe homeowner tasks. But anything that involves removing a sash from a PGT window, handling a glass unit, or replacing a balance system is work we’d rather you not attempt. A failed balance under tension can snap, and a laminated IGU is heavy, awkward, and expensive to replace if it chips. If the window is fogged, the fix is a new IGU; no home remedy will re-seal a failed unit.

If you’re not sure which side of the line you’re on, call us at (754) 324-4646 and describe what you’re seeing. A live person answers, day or night. We’ll tell you if it’s something you can handle yourself, and if it’s not, we’ll schedule the one visit it’s going to take.

BBill T.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."
