CWS Window Replacement: The Stuart Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CWS-compatible replacement windows throughout Stuart, with most full-frame or sash replacements running between $850 and $2,400 installed depending on size, glass package, and whether the frame itself is still sound. Most CWS window replacements we handle are completed in a single visit because we carry the common CWS hardware, balances, and insulated glass units on the truck. The reason owners call us is usually simple: the window will not stay up, will not close square, or has fog between the panes that no amount of cleaning removes.

CWS windows were installed in a lot of Martin County homes built between the late 1990s and the mid-2010s. They are a solid mid-range window, but two decades of Florida sun and salt air take a toll on vinyl frames, spiral balances, and glazing seals. Dale Kessler has measured enough CWS openings around Stuart to know which models tend to fail where: north-facing sashes near the St. Lucie River corrode hardware faster, and west-facing units in Port Salerno and Rocky Point blow seals earlier than anything else on the house.

We are an independent service provider, not a CWS dealer or factory affiliate. That matters for one reason: we match and replace what is failing without pushing you into a full-house window package you did not ask for. If the frame is still square and the opening is right, the rest is just doing the work.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS built several popular vinyl window lines, and the replacement path differs by model. The two you are most likely to have in a Stuart home are the CWS 8000 Series single-hung and the CWS 9000 Series horizontal roller. Both used 3/4-inch insulated glass units in standard rough openings, but the balance systems are not interchangeable between the two lines. That is the most common compatibility mistake we see from handymen and homeowners alike: a spiral balance pulled from an 8000 will not seat properly in a 9000 jamb channel, and the sash will bind within a month.

To identify your CWS model, look at the top edge of the sash when the window is open. CWS etched the series number and the glass size into the aluminum spacer bar between the panes in most units made after 2003. If that etching is gone, measure the visible glass width and height to the nearest 1/8 inch. We will match it either way.

OEM CWS parts are getting harder to source as the company’s older lines age out of the supply chain. We keep a working inventory of OE balances, pivot bars, and tilt latches for 8000 and 9000 units, and when OE is no longer available, we use a specific aftermarket balance matched to the sash weight and jamb depth, not a universal kit. A universal balance is the fast way to a window that does not stay up in August humidity. We do not use them.

Signs Your CWS Window Replacement Is Failing

  • The sash drops when you let go of it. The spiral balance has lost tension or the pivot bar has sheared. This is a safety issue as much as a convenience one, a falling sash can break fingers and crack tile sills.
  • You can feel air moving around the frame on windy days. In Stuart, the northeast trade winds find every worn weatherstrip and shrunken vinyl corner. The seal channel on CWS frames shrinks over 15-plus years of UV exposure, and the pile weatherstrip will not hold against it.
  • Condensation between the panes that never clears. The insulated glass seal has failed. Florida’s humidity gets drawn into the air space, and no amount of defogging chemicals fixes a desiccant that has been spent for years.
  • The sash tilts out of the frame at an odd angle and will not seat back. The tilt latch pawls are broken, which is common on CWS 9000 units. Forcing the sash back into place chews up the jamb channel and turns a $40 latch into a full-frame replacement.
  • You have to lift, push, and pray to get the lock to engage. The sash has settled or the interlock is misaligned. In houses near the water, the aluminum interlock at the meeting rail corrodes and then bends under the first hard close.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here is what CWS window replacement typically runs in Stuart as of the 2026 season:

  • Sash replacement with new balance and weatherstrip: $450-$850 installed, depending on sash width and glass package.
  • Insulated glass unit replacement (fogged or cracked glass): $350-$700 installed per window, including new glazing bead for CWS frames.
  • Full-frame replacement with new construction installation: $1,200-$2,400 installed, including exterior trim, flashing, and interior stops where needed.
  • Hardware-only replacement (tilt latches, pivot bars, lock sets): $180-$350 installed per window.

Those numbers include the part, the labor to install it, and the cleanup. You get a written line-item quote before we start, and the number on that quote is the number on the bill. No change orders unless we find structural damage behind the frame and we will show you exactly what we found before we do anything else. Every CWS replacement we install is covered under our Done Right Promise: if it is not right, we come back and make it right, no paperwork fight.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Is the sash visibly broken at the corner welds? Is the balance tube still attached to the jamb, or is it hanging loose? Does the window sit level in the opening when closed? Those observations save time when you call us, and they will not hurt you to check.

What you should not do is attempt a balance replacement on a CWS 8000 or 9000 unit without the right tools. Spiral balances are under significant tension. When one lets go during removal, it takes the vinyl jamb channel with it, and the repair bill triples. We have also seen homeowners strip the Phillips heads on CWS pivot bar screws and then drill out the sash, which ruins it permanently. If the window is binding, fogged, or dropping, call us at (754) 324-4646 and we will put eyes on it. The estimate is free, and most CWS replacements are completed the same visit.

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."
